Overview

Wines That Rock is a company that doesn't want anything that they do to look or feel like a traditional wine company. These are examples of a few of the four color print ads I have completed for Wines That Rock.

The Design of wine labels involves an amazing number of design constraints and limitations. WTR is a "green" company and the labels are printed on recycled paper using soy ink. The nature of the labeling process will not allow the die cuts you see on the labels of Wines from compnies that are not ecologically responsible. I addition government regulations concerning alcohol content and warnngs must be placed in specific fonts styles, sizes and locations. Nevertheless, I was able to come up with lable designs that now grace the bottles of one of the most sucessful new wine companies in years. The label and bottle designs are currently =under consideration for several industry awards.

GBradly publishes pictorial history books for cities and towns across the midwest. The "Joplin Keepsake Album" is one of the dozens of book designs and prepress projects I have completed for GBradley publishing over the last fifteen years. I select a black and white historical photo and create a four-color photo illustration usng mutiple layer and filters. I also color correct and preflight all the images in the GBradley books.

Another Wines That Rock project.Tthe task: design a t-shirt that is contemporary, interesting, and totally different from typical "Wine Company" designs. The solution?Using Illustrator I typed dozens of lines of letters, and then added product names to that random text. Overlaying the star logo, I changed individual letter colors to create the star shape and to hightlight the product words. Tedious, but worth it.

Out of Bounds was the brainchild of myself and collegue Bob Parajon. Out of Bounds was a new type of magazine for the Times Mirror, an irreverent, cutting edge sports magazine. Bob and I gave a presentation before the TM Board of Directors and publishers, but our concept was not pursued. Too bad, because I still think it was a great idea.

Celebrating 70 is a four-color, casebound book documenting Mark McGwires historic (at he time) season. The book was designed as the season went along so we could go to press virtually days after the season ended. The book was designed by Bill Wilson and I was responsible for the color correction, production work flow and oversight of the printing - including a half-dozen trips to printing plants for press checks.
